Tyler Reddick set the pace in Friday’s practice session for the NASCAR All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro Speedway. Driving the No. 45 Toyota, Reddick clocked a best lap of 18.198 seconds, which translated to a top speed of 123.640 mph on the 0.625-mile track.

He was one of only two drivers to complete more than 100 laps during the session, finishing 101 total, with his fastest time coming on his 54th lap around the circuit.

Chase Elliott followed close behind with a lap of 18.233 seconds. Elliott’s team made quick adjustments after he struggled with short-run speed early in practice.

Bubba Wallace, representing the All-Star Open drivers, put up the third-best time, running a lap of 18.237 seconds. Christopher Bell, driving for Joe Gibbs Racing, turned in the fourth-fastest effort at 18.265 seconds, and Erik Jones completed the top five with a lap of 18.271 seconds.

Joey Logano, the defending All-Star Race winner, was also a standout in the session, logging the most laps with 110. Logano continues to focus on the $1 million prize, which adds extra stakes to the annual exhibition.

He moved up the standings after a recent win in Texas and now sits ninth in the NASCAR Cup Series, already locked into the playoffs. Logano commented that this race is about money, and he embraces the chance to collect the winner’s bonus while racing free from worries about championship points.

Other key performers in the field included Ross Chastain, Brad Keselowski, William Byron, and Kyle Busch, who all posted strong times within tenths of a second of the leader. Heat races and the All-Star Open will further decide the main event lineup, with the expectation of intense competition and the possibility of penalties affecting starting positions.

North Wilkesboro Speedway has become a centerpiece for the All-Star event since returning to the NASCAR schedule. The 2025 edition features 23 drivers in the main event: 20 who qualified automatically, the top two finishers of the Open, and the Fan Vote winner.

Qualifying involves three-lap runs with a required pit stop that judges the fastest teams and sets the lineups for heat races and the Open. The final All-Star field is decided by two heat races, both counting all laps and including competition breaks and Overtime rules.

Broadcasts of the weekend’s events will air on FOX Sports 1, FS2, MRN Radio, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, with practice starting Friday at 3 p.m. CT and qualifying at 5 p.m. CT. The All-Star Race itself is scheduled for Sunday at 8 p.m. ET and covers 250 laps, 50 more than last year.

The unique format lets the track owner call a caution between laps 100 and 220, which adds another challenge for teams as they prepare their strategies and pit crews.

Many drivers recognize the importance of momentum at this point in the season. Several are eager for a strong run to help their teams as they look ahead to the summer swing and the postseason.

The All-Star weekend brings together skilled racers from top organizations like Hendrick Motorsports, Joe Gibbs Racing, Team Penske, and 23XI Racing, all chasing a big payday and some bragging rights.
