Opel Unveils Stunning Electric Rally Car Prototype

Opel is making headlines in rally racing with its all-electric prototype Mokka GSE Rally, marking a new step for the brand under FIA’s eRally5 regulations. The German manufacturer is already known for its work in electric rally with the Corsa Rally Electric, running successfully in the ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup, now in its fifth season.

This newest prototype combines Opel’s experience with new FIA requirements for two-wheel drive production models, using standard motors, inverters, and batteries.

The Mokka GSE Rally is preparing for its first public test at the ELE Rally Eindhoven, signaling Opel’s strong intentions for the future of electric motorsport.

The Mokka GSE Rally isn’t just a showpiece—it delivers 207 kW, or about 280 horsepower, with 345 Newton meters of torque. According to Opel, this performance meets the level of a Rally4 car.

Engineers also developed advanced software tuning that adjusts engine and battery management to prioritize efficiency, drivability, and consistency under intense rally conditions.

Safety received extra attention in the Mokka GSE Rally. The battery is protected by a special enclosure, and visual and audio alerts activate if any battery isolation issues arise.

Sensors can shut off the high-voltage system within tenths of a second in case of abrupt impacts, protecting both driver and car.

Additionally, there is a custom fire system that uses a non-conductive extinguishing agent, crucial for a fully electric vehicle.

Opel and Vauxhall CEO Florian Huettl expressed pride in joint progress with the ADAC to demonstrate that electric rally cars can be exciting and competitive.

He described the prototype’s high-tech engineering as a preview of future electric rally vehicles.
