William Byron will continue driving the famous No. 24 Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports through the 2029 season. The announcement came on May 23, 2025, just before the NASCAR Cup Series heads to Charlotte for the Coca-Cola 600.

Byron, now 27 years old, has been a key part of the Hendrick lineup since his full-time debut in 2018. This new contract means he will spend at least four more years with the most successful team in Cup Series history.

Byron has now won the Daytona 500 twice and stands second in the current season’s championship standings. When he took his second victory in the “Great American Race,” he became the youngest driver to win that event multiple times.

Jeff Gordon, Hendrick Motorsports vice chairman and NASCAR legend, previously held that distinction. In total, Byron has earned 14 wins during his Cup Series career and has reached the NASCAR playoffs six years in a row.

He has finished as high as third in the standings, making the Championship 4 in both 2023 and 2024, though he is still seeking his first Cup title. Since joining the team, Byron’s steady improvement has put him among NASCAR’s top drivers.

He started by winning Rookie of the Year in his debut season and gradually built a strong on-track record. Byron’s 14 Cup victories make him one of Hendrick’s most successful young talents, and he continues to work with veteran crew chief Rudy Fugle.

Their partnership has produced steady results each season. Byron said, “We’ve built something special with the No. 24 team. I’m thankful for the opportunity to continue working with amazing people at Hendrick Motorsports who believe in me, especially Mr. and Mrs. Hendrick.”

“We’ve accomplished some great things that we’re really proud of, but we have even bigger goals ahead.” Rick Hendrick, team owner, described Byron as “the real deal,” pointing to his combination of natural ability and a strong work ethic.

He praised Byron’s character and his leadership in the organization, saying the team is proud to have him and expects many more wins together. Hendrick Motorsports currently has four full-time Cup drivers.

Byron lines up alongside Kyle Larson (No. 5), Chase Elliott (No. 9), and Alex Bowman (No. 48). The team has a long track record of success, consistently placing drivers in the playoffs and fighting for championships each year.

Earlier in his career, Byron also found success in NASCAR’s lower ranks. He won the Xfinity Series title in 2017 and scored 11 total victories across the Xfinity and Truck Series before making the step up to Cup.

His Cup career has continued that momentum, making him one of the brightest stars in the sport today. The Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte marks another important race in Byron’s season.

He will look to add to his playoff points and possibly challenge for another major NASCAR victory. Fans can expect to see Byron in the famed No. 24 car for many more seasons as he continues his journey with Hendrick Motorsports.
