William Byron will be staying at Hendrick Motorsports through 2029 after agreeing to a four-year contract extension with the team. The announcement comes just before the annual Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, one of the biggest races on the NASCAR calendar.
Byron, who drives the No. 24 Chevrolet, has quickly become one of NASCARโs brightest stars, especially since making his full-time Cup Series debut in 2018.
Byronโs career has included some impressive numbers. Since the start of 2020, he has picked up 14 wins, and 13 of those have come since he was paired with crew chief Rudy Fugle in 2021.
Only one Cup Series driver has more wins in that time. Byron, who turned 27 this year, has reached the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs every season since 2019 and has qualified for the Championship 4 in both 2023 and 2024.
His steady improvement has made him a key part of the Hendrick Motorsports lineup.
This past February, Byron made headlines by winning the Daytona 500 for the second year in a row. That achievement made him just the 13th driver ever to win the event more than once and the first to go back-to-back since Denny Hamlin did it in 2019 and 2020.
Byronโs latest Daytona win helped clinch his spot in the 2025 Playoffs, and he currently holds second place in the Cup Series standings, just behind his Hendrick teammate Kyle Larson.
Byron has shown talent at every level of racing. Before joining the Cup Series, he won 11 combined races in the Xfinity Series and the Craftsman Truck Series.
In 2017, Byron won the Xfinity championship with four victories that year, which set up his jump to Cup competition. His journey from Xfinity champion to consistent Cup Series contender highlights his growth as a racer and his value to the Hendrick organization.
Speaking about the new deal, Byron said that working with the No. 24 team and everyone at Hendrick Motorsports has been special. He thanked Mr. and Mrs. Hendrick for their belief in him and said he looks forward to chasing even bigger goals with the group in the future.
Team owner Rick Hendrick praised Byronโs work ethic and leadership, saying Byron is โthe real dealโ and emphasizing his commitment both on and off the track.
The contract extension keeps Byron at the team where he has enjoyed the most success, building on a partnership that has brought multiple wins and deep playoff runs. Fans can watch Byron and Hendrick Motorsports continue their push for victories as the season continues, with the next big race taking place at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.
With this new deal, both Byron and Hendrick Motorsports look set for more success in the coming years.
