Austin Dillon and Chase Briscoe are both set to return to NASCAR Xfinity Series action at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The BetMGM 300 race on Saturday will see these two NASCAR Cup Series drivers stepping down for the weekend.
Dillon, who won the Xfinity championship in 2013, will take the wheel of the No. 3 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing. Briscoe climbs into the No. 19 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing, marking his first Xfinity start since 2022.
Both drivers are familiar with success at this level. Dillon has run 12 Xfinity races at Charlotte with two victories, six top-five finishes, and seven top 10s. For more details on his career stats, you can explore the NASCAR official driver database.
His most recent Xfinity Series start came in 2023. Briscoe, in contrast, last competed in an Xfinity car on an oval in 2020.
He has four prior Charlotte Xfinity races, placing as high as sixth. That was his only top-10 at the track, but he’s eager for the challenge. For a deeper look at Xfinity Series history, check out the Racing-Reference.info archives.
Dillon is looking forward to racing the No. 3 car again. He has confidence in the team’s current speed and experience.
This year, Richard Childress Racing has claimed four Xfinity wins—three by Austin Hill and one by Jesse Love. Dillon believes the core group of employees makes a big difference for the team’s performance.
He feels his time in Cup gives him strong experience to bring back to the Xfinity Series, and he hopes the race will help boost his momentum for Sunday’s Coca-Cola 600.
Briscoe admits some nerves ahead of his return. The difference in feel between Cup and Xfinity cars is on his mind, especially since his Xfinity experience at Charlotte is limited.
JGR has two Xfinity wins this year. Briscoe hopes a strong Xfinity run will help his confidence in the Cup car as he continues adjusting to a new team and manufacturer for 2025.
Heading into the weekend, Briscoe is 12th in Cup Series points, while Dillon stands 21st. Dillon has three top 10s in his last four Cup starts.
Despite only four Xfinity appearances since 2022, he is aiming to shake off any rust. Briscoe, meanwhile, graded his Cup season so far as a B- or C+, and sees the Xfinity race as an opportunity to improve his outlook. Saturday’s 200-lap race is set to be a fast one, with both RCR and JGR fielding strong cars. Dillon is hoping his home track advantage pays off, and Briscoe will be focused on getting comfortable in the car quickly.
Both drivers know that a strong Xfinity result can set the tone for their performance during the rest of the Charlotte weekend. Fans can look forward to seeing Cup regulars mix it up with full-time Xfinity competitors on one of the sport’s biggest stages.
A strong outing could mean extra momentum and added confidence for whichever driver comes out on top. For more on the history of Charlotte Motor Speedway, explore the track’s official website.
