Charles Leclerc is keeping Ferrari focused on fighting in the 2025 Formula 1 season, even though the team has had a slow start. He made it clear after the most recent race that Ferrari shouldnโt stop working on its car, pointing to how last yearโs improvements from McLarenโs 2024 campaign changed the battle among the top teams.
Leclerc shared his thoughts following a runner-up finish behind Lando Norris, which marked Ferrariโs best result so far this year.
The team entered the 2025 season aiming to compete for more wins, but early rounds have been challenging, with Ferrari trailing rivals McLaren and Red Bull in both pace and results.
As Formula 1 heads toward its mid-season stretch, Leclerc remains confident that Ferrari can still make gains. He pointed out how sudden upswings are possible if the right upgrades are brought at the right time, referencing McLarenโs big leap during the 2024 campaign.
Leclerc mentioned he doesnโt want his team to lose hope, stating, โWe definitely donโt want to give up now. We cannot afford to give up now.โ He and his engineers are tracking several updates, though he admitted it is still uncertain when they will arrive or how much difference they can make on track.
The next Grand Prix in Barcelona could offer a new chance for Ferrari, with the FIA introducing stricter tests on front wing flexibility.
Leclerc said this change could shake up the order, giving Ferrari a potential opportunity to close the gap to the leading teams.
He explained that Barcelona will be an important test with these regulations, but they will have to wait and see if the new rules bring the advantage the team needs. If the changes work out, Ferrari may stick to their 2025 development plan. If not, team principal Fred Vasseur may decide itโs time to shift focus onto next yearโs car as teams keep an eye on the even bigger 2026 rule overhaul.
Currently, Leclerc sits fifth in the driversโ standings after collecting 79 points, while Ferrari is fourth in the teamsโ championship with 142 points. McLaren leads in both, with Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris tallying 161 and 158 points each, helping McLaren reach 319 points in the team standings.
Red Bull and Mercedes remain closely matched ahead of Ferrari, highlighting the difficulty Leclerc and Vasseur face if they want to catch up before the 2025 title is out of reach. Leclerc also spoke about the carโs issues, suggesting that if he knew exactly what was wrong, the problems would be easier to fix.
He described delays with upgrade timelines but reassured that the team is working hard to deliver updates quickly. He also noted how unpredictable timelines and results can be when you are fighting at the top level.
Ferrariโs hope is that these changes will come sooner rather than later so they can challenge for race wins this year. With technical changes coming in Spain and the promise of new parts on the way, Ferrariโs campaign is far from over.
Leclercโs determination is clear and he wants the team to stay motivated, believing that a strong second half to the season is still realistic. Whether the new rules and updates will be enough for Ferrari to return to the front remains to be seen, but Leclercโs call for continued effort keeps the drive for improvement alive inside the Maranello-based squad. His resilience is reminiscent of the mindset shown during Monaco heartbreak earlier this year.
