Maximilian Gรผnther delivered a standout performance during the 2025 Shanghai E-Prix, sealing a dominant victory for DS Penske after starting from pole position. The German driver showcased strong control at the Shanghai International Circuit, making the most of both peloton-style racing and tactical use of the pit boost.
This marks Gรผntherโs second win of the season and further cements his role in the championship battle as Formula E moves deeper into its tenth round. Finishing just behind him was his DS Penske teammate Jean-Eric Vergne, completing a one-two finish for the team on a demanding track.
The pair executed their team strategy perfectly, keeping out of trouble despite a busy pack and a series of late-race attacks from rivals. Taylor Barnard delivered a strong drive to take third place for McLaren, holding his own in a tight contest with Dan Ticktum and points leader Oliver Rowland.
Dan Ticktumโs climb from 21st on the grid to fourth was one of the most exciting stories of the day. He battled through the field and nearly claimed a podium after a last-corner scrap with Barnard and Vergne, narrowly missing out in the final meters.
Meanwhile, Oliver Rowland placed fifth for Nissan, maintaining his lead in the Driversโ Championship despite pressure from a tight group of competitors behind. Norman Nato took sixth for Nissan, and McLarenโs Sam Bird brought home seventh.
Nyck de Vries continued his consistent form with an eighth place for Mahindra. Envision Racingโs pair of Sebastian Buemi and Robin Frijns rounded out the top ten, both making the most of mid-race opportunities to collect valuable points for the team.
Elsewhere in the field, Stoffel Vandoorne placed eleventh in a challenging outing for Maserati. Both Porsche drivers, Pascal Wehrlein and Antonio Felix da Costa, claimed twelfth and thirteenth places, just ahead of David Beckmann for Cupra Kiro and Nico Mรผller for Andretti.
The finishing order reflected the intensity of the race, with close battles and tactical overtakes throughout the pack on a circuit known for its passing opportunities. The race promised plenty of excitement after a rapid qualifying session saw Gรผnther secure pole.
His strong form carried through the race, as he kept a firm grip on the lead despite challenges from behind. DS Penske now strengthens its position in the Teamsโ Championship with two cars inside the top two, while other teams will look to regroup ahead of upcoming races in the Formula E season.
With 21 drivers classified and only one retirementโEdoardo Mortara for Mahindraโthis round demonstrated the close competition and reliability seen in Formula Eโs latest generation of cars. Fans will now turn their focus to the next race as the championship picture continues to develop, with plenty of action and storylines still to unfold in the 2025 season.
