Richard Verschoor took the win in a dramatic F2 Sprint Race at the 2025 Spanish Grand Prix, just edging out Alex Dunne at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Verschoor crossed the finish line only 0.380 seconds ahead of Dunne, who moved into the lead of the F2 championship standings after an intense 26-lap contest.

Rafael Villagomez completed the podium in third, giving Van Amersfoort Racing a well-earned result after a consistent run near the front. The race began with Luke Browning making a lightning-fast start from third on the grid to lead into the first corner.

Browning showed early pace, but Jak Crawford fought hard and moved ahead on lap four after a lively duel, keeping the lead group tightly packed.

Verschoor, starting from pole, slipped back in the opening laps before starting his fight back through the order as the laps wore on.

Mid-race, on lap 14, the contest heated up when Verschoor and Arvid Lindblad tangled at the opening turn, causing Lindblad to spin. This skirmish was noted by race control but did not require a full investigation, and racing continued without a safety car.

Trouble struck again a few laps later when Prema teammates Sebastian Montoya and Gabriele Mini collided at the first corner on lap 18. The incident brought out the only safety car of the race and sent Mini into retirement, joining John Bennett as the two drivers who failed to finish.

The late safety car period shook up strategies as several drivers gambled with a change to fresh soft tyres. This led to frantic battles through the closing stages as they chased valuable points, especially with the race resuming for a six-lap dash to the flag.

Verschoor made the most of the restart, regaining positions in the scramble and climbing back into the lead. He held off Dunne by a narrow margin on the final lap.

The top five featured Jak Crawford in fourth after his early lead fight, and Sebastian Montoya rebounding from his earlier clash to finish fifth for Prema Racing. Victor Martins, Luke Browning, and Leonardo Fornaroli completed the remaining points-paying positions, while Lindblad, Meguetounif, and Cordeel narrowly missed out.

Every result is still provisional as post-race investigations continue, especially focusing on the Prema teammates’ incident. The result dramatically reshuffles the championship, with Dunne now heading the standings and Verschoor closing the gap with a vital win as the F2 season heads towards its midway mark.

The Spanish fans left the circuit with plenty to talk about following a day packed with action, strategy, and a close finish at one of the calendar’s most iconic venues. This event attracted attention much like other iconic Grand Prix weekends covered in the season, highlighting the intensity of Formula 2 racing.
