The 2025 Shanghai E-Prix II delivered dramatic action in tricky conditions as Formula E returned to the Shanghai International Circuit. On June 1, New Zealandโ€™s Nick Cassidy delivered a standout drive, taking victory in wet weather.

Starting from pole, Cassidy kept his cool as heavy rain hit the circuit and pulled clear of the field to claim a win by more than seven seconds. His performance never wavered, and neither tricky corners nor spray from the downpour seemed to slow him down.

The battle behind Cassidy saw Porsche drivers Pascal Wehrlein and Antonio Felix da Costa round out the podium. Wehrlein pushed hard but could not match Cassidyโ€™s pace, holding off his teammate in the closing laps to finish second.

Da Costa secured third place after fending off challenges from drivers behind. Both Porsche cars crossed the line safely, with the team celebrating a double podium finish in challenging circumstances.

Jake Hughes, driving for Maserati, made up positions as the race unfolded. Hughes finished fourth, just ahead of DS Penskeโ€™s Jean-Eric Vergne, who brought his car home in fifth.

These two rounded out the top five after a competitive and eventful race that saw several changes in the running order due to the wet conditions. Defending champion Oliver Rowland, who came into the Shanghai round as the points leader, struggled throughout the race and could only manage 13th place in his Nissan.

His result leaves the championship battle wide open with several races remaining.

Elsewhere in the top ten, Andrettiโ€™s Nico Mรผller finished sixth, followed by Maseratiโ€™s Stoffel Vandoorne in seventh. Eighth place went to Lucas di Grassi in the Lola Yamaha ABT, while Robin Frijns gave Envision a points finish in ninth.

McLarenโ€™s Taylor Barnard completed the top ten, benefiting from steady driving as others slipped up in the treacherous conditions. The race saw one retirement, as Saturdayโ€™s winner Maximilian Gรผnther exited early in his DS Penske after a first-lap incident.

His misfortune opened the door for others to gain valuable championship points. Zane Maloney, Nyck de Vries, and Mitch Evans all finished just outside the points, unable to break into the top ten despite solid early pace.

Many teams and drivers found the rain a major obstacle, but Cassidyโ€™s Jaguar appeared in full control from start to finish. His victory marks a significant moment for both driver and team as they aim to close the gap in the championship standings.

With strong finishes from Porsche and problems for the previous dayโ€™s frontrunners, the Shanghai doubleheader has set up an exciting path for the remainder of the Formula E season. The series heads into its next round with momentum shifting and several drivers still in the fight for the title.

Fans can expect more twists as teams regroup to tackle the coming circuits. Nick Cassidyโ€™s win in Shanghai will be remembered as a master class in wet-weather racing in one of the seasonโ€™s most challenging events.
