2025 Shanghai E-Prix II Results: Thrilling Formula E Race Recap

The 2025 Shanghai E-Prix II delivered dramatic action in tricky conditions as Formula E returned to the Shanghai International Circuit. On June 1, New Zealand’s Nick Cassidy delivered a standout drive, taking victory in wet weather.

Starting from pole, Cassidy kept his cool as heavy rain hit the circuit and pulled clear of the field to claim a win by more than seven seconds. His performance never wavered, and neither tricky corners nor spray from the downpour seemed to slow him down.

Defending champion Oliver Rowland, who came into the Shanghai round as the points leader, struggled throughout the race and could only manage 13th place in his Nissan.

His result leaves the championship battle wide open with several races remaining.

Elsewhere in the top ten, Andretti’s Nico Müller finished sixth, followed by Maserati’s Stoffel Vandoorne in seventh. Eighth place went to Lucas di Grassi in the Lola Yamaha ABT, while Robin Frijns gave Envision a points finish in ninth.

McLaren’s Taylor Barnard completed the top ten, benefiting from steady driving as others slipped up in the treacherous conditions. The race saw one retirement, as Saturday’s winner Maximilian Günther exited early in his DS Penske after a first-lap incident.

His misfortune opened the door for others to gain valuable championship points. Zane Maloney, Nyck de Vries, and Mitch Evans all finished just outside the points, unable to break into the top ten despite solid early pace.

Many teams and drivers found the rain a major obstacle, but Cassidy’s Jaguar appeared in full control from start to finish. His victory marks a significant moment for both driver and team as they aim to close the gap in the championship standings.
