Erik Jones put on a standout performance at Nashville Superspeedway, finishing seventh in the Cracker Barrel 400 on June 3, 2025. The Michigan-born driver, now 29 years old, has been showing steady progress with the No. 43 Legacy Motor Club Toyota in recent Cup Series races.
Over the past four events, Jones has secured finishes of 13th or better three times, and his strong run at Nashville marks his most convincing result this season for the team.
The numbers reflect Jonesโ improvement on the track. He posted the top Defense Rating at Nashville, which measures a driverโs ability to keep his position under pressure.
Throughout the race, Jones held off established competitors. Among Toyota drivers, only Denny Hamlin in third and Bubba Wallace in sixth finished ahead of Jones, while Tyler Reddick and Christopher Bell completed the top 10.
Jones was the third Toyota driver in the final order. He also ranked fifth in Speed Rating as the race wore on.
He finished Stage 2 in fifth and fought Joey Logano, who finished fourth overall, for position during the last stage. According to NASCAR Insights, Jonesโ Restart Rating, Passer Rating, and Pit Crew Rating were all ranked sixth, showing his ability to perform well in several key areas.
He was the only driver at Nashville to secure sixth or better in all five measured categories: Defense, Speed, Restart, Passer, and Pit Crew Ratings.
Although Jones did not win the race, his ability to avoid mistakes and stay competitive highlights a team moving in the right direction. He credited smooth pit stops and solid car balance for the progress, pointing out that there is still work to do to increase their speed.
โWe didnโt have any mistakes. We had good pit stops. It just is cleaning everything up and continuing to improve on these cars,โ Jones shared after the race. He believes that with continued improvements, the No. 43 Toyota will get even faster.
Other drivers also made notable gains at Nashville. Joey Logano, after a disappointing run at the Coca-Cola 600 where he placed 19th or worse in all five performance categories, finished ninth or better in every area at Nashville.
William Byron also posted strong results in four of the five tracked categories, coming up short only in Pit Crew Rating.
Kyle Larson managed to bounce back from problems early in the race and finished eighth, thanks in part to a top-five Restart Rating. These results suggest the competition among teams is heating up as the season moves forward, much like the ongoing tensions seen in other motorsport series such as the Verstappen-Russell clash.
Next up, Erik Jones will return to his home track at Michigan International Speedway for the FireKeepers Casino 400 on Sunday, June 8. With a growing streak of strong results, Jones and the No. 43 team head to Michigan with plenty of momentum and optimism as they continue their push for even better finishes in the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series season.
