Jason Hoard’s recent crash at World Wide Technology Raceway quickly caught attention across the internet. The veteran small-tire racer was testing his nearly new Corvette during a no-prep event when the car took flight midway down the track.

In a sudden twist, the nose of the car pitched skyward, and the Corvette launched into a violent wreck. Hoard described the experience on The Wes Buck Show, saying the car felt completely fine until it suddenly wasn’t.

Within moments, he realized something was wrong as the car started lifting and he made himself as small as possible inside his seat, bracing for what was coming.

The wreck knocked Hoard unconscious for about five minutes.

He remembered the first jolt on the left rear of the car, then nothing until he woke up to find himself sore and disoriented. Medical staff checked him for a concussion and discovered possible issues near his lungs, while Hoard noticed floaters in his right eye.

Later, his doctor found some bruising. Even days after the crash, Hoard reported moving slowly and feeling brain fog.

He shared that searching for concussion symptoms online became part of his recovery, as he pieced together what had happened. The crash took place during a test pass at an unsanctioned event, but the track was an NHRA-approved facility, so officials impounded Hoard’s Corvette to examine it.

He acknowledged he still had no access to the car’s data or condition after the incident. The Beilman Fabrication-built vehicle had not shown any trouble through 20 previous runs, Hoard said.

Changes for this pass included activating the torque converter’s lock-up function, which he suspects helped lift the front end higher than usual. This was especially significant since they were using slick tires with a radial-ready tune.

Safety gear and car construction were critical during the incident. Hoard credited Beilman Fabrication, stating his harness straps, Pro One driving suit, and Hans device were all up-to-date and contributed to his survival.

He stressed that keeping harnesses tight and equipment in top shape is vital, as it can make the difference between walking away and something far worse. The crash totaled Hoard’s Corvette.

He said bluntly that the car is destroyed and he now plans to step back from building high-power cars for a while. Instead, Hoard is considering more relaxed runs with his nitrous-powered Fox body Mustang, which is less stressful and less expensive.

He explained that the costs and risks of chasing ever-higher speeds weigh heavier with each passing year. While Hoard is unsure about building another high-horsepower machine, he remains active in the racing scene.

He is outspoken about the need for good decision-making and safety in the small-tire racing world, where speeds and danger both increase. He said the community needs to focus on safer choices, especially as cars continue to get faster on smaller tracks.

Hoard made clear he’s not leaving racing completely. He hopes to get behind the wheel again but is reconsidering what vehicles and events are worth the risk.

The viral crash video might have only lasted seconds, but it brought lasting reminders about safety and the real risks faced by today’s racers.
