Fernando Alonso shared his first impressions after working alongside Adrian Newey during the Monaco Grand Prix weekend. Newey, who joined Aston Martin earlier this season, appeared trackside with the team for the first time at the event held in late May 2025.

Newey’s presence in Monaco meant more than just a familiar face in the garage. Alonso explained that Newey’s attention to detail became clear as he observed the car both on the grid and in the pit lane.

The Spanish driver noted that Newey quickly identified areas where improvements could be made, providing the team with instant feedback. This approach, according to Alonso, helped raise the level of focus among team members, making everyone pay closer attention during each phase of the race weekend.

Inside team meetings, Alonso said that Newey’s reputation for honesty and precision impacted the engineering crew. He described the atmosphere as more intense, with engineers and staff bringing extra care to their discussions.

Alonso pointed out that Newey’s ability to notice any discrepancies kept everyone honest, as nobody wanted to present information that might not hold up under critical scrutiny.

Alonso described the experience as “fantastic,” expressing his enthusiasm for having Newey in the meeting room. The two-time World Champion appreciated how Newey’s involvement led to more productive sessions and raised the overall quality of work.

He shared that team members, aware of the legendary designer’s standards, felt inspired to offer accurate and well-thought-out feedback on the car’s performance.

Looking to the future, Alonso expressed hope that Newey will attend more races throughout the 2025 season and beyond. He believes Newey’s regular involvement will help Aston Martin grow as a team, especially as they prepare for the major changes set for 2026.

As design work continues on the next-generation car, Alonso expects the staff will keep learning from Newey’s experience in car development and race engineering.

The recent Monaco Grand Prix marked an important step in Newey’s integration with Aston Martin. The team’s focus on refining its technical strategy for 2026 remains a priority, and Alonso highlighted the positive momentum gained from Newey’s input.

The British engineer’s unique perspective and direct feedback are already influencing how the group addresses ongoing challenges in car setup and development.

Aston Martin continues to aim for stronger results as the current F1 season unfolds, with key milestones ahead on the race calendar. The Canadian Grand Prix at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve takes place on June 15, followed by the Austrian event at Red Bull Ring on June 29 and the British race at Silverstone on July 6.

Alonso and his team hope that the experience and insight Newey brings will translate into more competitive performances as they target progress in both the short and long term.
