Ricky Stenhouse Jr. took his frustrations directly to Carson Hocevar after the checkered flag flew at the Viva Mexico 250, held at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez on June 15. The two NASCAR Cup Series drivers had an on-track incident late in the 100-lap event, which quickly boiled over to pit road once the race wrapped.
Stenhouse, who drives the No. 47 Chevrolet for Hyak Motorsports, walked up to Hocevar’s No. 77 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet and voiced his concerns through the driver’s window.
The critical moment came on Lap 90, deep in the high-energy stadium section, when Hocevar and Stenhouse made contact. Both lost control and spun, but they were able to get their cars pointed in the right direction and finish the race.
Stenhouse crossed the line in 27th place, while Hocevar ended up 34th as the event came to a close. Despite the frustration on both sides, neither driver appeared to suffer car-ending damage from the crash.
Their clash in Mexico City followed an earlier run-in just two weeks before at Nashville Superspeedway. On June 1, during the Nashville race, Hocevar made a move that sent Stenhouse out of contention and out of the race altogether.
Stenhouse commented at that time, calling Hocevar’s actions over-aggressive. In the days after Nashville, both drivers gave the impression that they had put the incident behind them and were focused on moving forward.
Sunday’s race was part of a busy schedule at the historic Mexican circuit. The event marked another competitive round of the NASCAR Cup Series, with a range of storylines unfolding throughout the 250-mile contest.
Mexico City’s venue drew large crowds eager to watch the top-tier drivers battle on the demanding track. The racing action delivered plenty of dramatic moments, with several position changes and bold passes during the last 10 laps.
The aftermath between Stenhouse and Hocevar stood out as one of the biggest storylines to emerge from the afternoon. Both will now turn their attention to the upcoming race, hoping to avoid more costly incidents as the season continues.
Official race results and photographs from Mexico City are available, capturing the action and the aftermath from an eventful weekend. Fans and teams will be watching closely to see if the tension between Stenhouse and Hocevar lingers when the NASCAR Cup Series returns next week at Pocono Raceway.
