The 2025 Jakarta E-Prix saw Jake Dennis return to the top in dramatic fashion, securing pole position after a gripping showdown on a sunny June morning. Dennis, representing Andretti, ended his pole drought in the Indonesian capital by outpacing McLaren’s Taylor Barnard in the final duel.
Nyck de Vries, racing for Mahindra, showcased strong pace by taking third on the starting grid, building on his recent momentum and consistently solid outings.
Jaguar’s Nick Cassidy followed closely in fourth, continuing his string of competitive qualifying sessions this season.
Rounding out the top five was Dan Ticktum for Cupra Kiro, who made the most of the challenging circuit conditions. The Jakarta E-Prix circuit was noticeably dusty and slippery, adding an extra layer of difficulty for all drivers throughout the session.
Edoardo Mortara delivered another strong result for Mahindra, putting his car in sixth when the dust settled. Former Formula E champion Sebastian Buemi secured the seventh starting spot for Envision, showing his experience and adaptability under tough conditions.
Jean-Eric Vergne, driving for DS Penske, completed the top eight with a methodical approach through the group stages and duels.
Both Antonio Felix da Costa and Pascal Wehrlein, front-runners for Porsche, failed to advance to the duels. The mixed results shifted the championship narrative, increasing attention on how the grid would shake out in the main race.
Further down the order, McLaren’s Sam Bird and Maserati’s Jake Hughes found themselves outside the top ten, highlighting the session’s unpredictability. Zane Maloney and Lucas di Grassi, both fielding for Lola Yamaha ABT, ended up securing places at the back of the grid after grappling with the evolving track conditions.
Norman Nato and Robin Frijns also faced difficulties and lined up towards the rear for Nissan and Envision, respectively. The full qualifying list reflected the diversity of teams and nationalities in the series.
Drivers representing Andretti, McLaren, Mahindra, Jaguar, Porsche, Cupra Kiro, DS Penske, Maserati, Lola Yamaha ABT, Nissan, and Envision populated the 22-car grid. Positions ranged from Dennis on pole for Great Britain to Frijns closing out the field for the Netherlands.
With such varied results in Jakarta’s challenging environment, anticipation is high for the E-Prix. The shake-up in qualifying means several championship contenders will have to mount a strong race comeback.
