Torrence’s weekend showed a level of consistency that had been hard to find in previous events. He qualified third for Sunday’s main event, with runs of 3.883, 3.888, and 3.877 seconds, collecting seven bonus points.
That’s the most qualifying points he’s scored at a single event since March at the Amalie Gatornationals in Gainesville, Florida, where he earned nine. It also marked the first time Torrence earned points in every qualifying session since the 2022 DENSO Nationals at Sonoma, California.
Speaking after qualifying, Torrence shared that consistency had been a missing piece over the last few seasons. He and his crew have focused on getting the car back to form, and he said, “That’s been the main focus for the last few years, and we’ve lost that, and it seems to be coming back around right now, with three good runs on a very tricky racetrack.”
Heading into Sunday’s main event, Torrence will start as the number three seed, facing Josh Hart in the first round. If he advances, he could face Justin Ashley in the second round—a familiar matchup after Torrence beat Ashley in the Bristol final.
Beyond Torrence’s win, the NHRA Virginia Nationals weekend is buzzing with news. Daniel Wilkerson celebrated a #2Fast2Tasty Challenge win in Funny Car.
Brittany Force and Jack Beckman grabbed top qualifying spots. Meanwhile, Tony Stewart and Matt Hagan are running in American Rebel colors, and the Congruity NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series continues its season.
