Alonso, a two-time world champion and current Aston Martin F1 driver, provides inspiration and experience for the new recruits. For Boya, being around experienced racers like Alonso, Lance Stroll, and Pedro de la Rosa makes the experience even more special.
Cowell described it as a way for Aston Martin to shape the next generation of Formula 1 stars.
The program is intended to guide young drivers through some of the most challenging and competitive phases of their racing careers. This move sees Aston Martin become the ninth F1 team to have a driver academy; only Haas currently does not have one.
At the same time, key stories include Pierre Gasly instructing Alpine ahead of changes, and Max Verstappen showing off a new helmet design.
These developments keep the F1 news cycle busy as the season progresses. Looking at the 2025 standings, Oscar Piastri of McLaren leads with 198 points.
His teammate Lando Norris sits second with 176, while Max Verstappen of Red Bull holds third at 155. Team standings show McLaren ahead of Mercedes and Ferrari, with McLaren collecting 374 points this season so far.
The season will continue with stops in Belgium, Hungary, and the Netherlands.
As the new Driver Academy begins, Aston Martin looks to build for the future while staying competitive in today’s field. Mari Boya’s selection signals the team’s confidence in his potential and the value it places on strong driver development.
The coming months will show how this investment pays off, both for Boya and for the team’s long-term ambitions in Formula 1.
