Leclerc admitted that expectations were much higher coming into the season. The team had hoped to challenge both McLaren and Red Bull for the title, but reality has fallen short so far.
Comparing Ferrari to the rest of the field, Leclerc pointed out that while their season hasn’t been disastrous, it is not meeting the high standards the team expects. He acknowledged McLaren’s significant step forward since last year, a leap that has separated them from both Ferrari and other top teams.
Leclerc stressed that while disappointment is running high within the Maranello squad, managing pressure and outside noise is critical. He said that constant speculation and negative coverage can distort how the season looks from the outside.
Ferrari, he believes, should focus on careful analysis and development, just as Mercedes and Red Bull are doing as they try to catch up to McLaren’s breakthrough.
Currently, the driver standings reflect this shift. McLaren’s Oscar Piastri leads with 198 points, with teammate Lando Norris on 176.
Max Verstappen of Red Bull is third at 155, and Mercedes’ George Russell follows with 136. Leclerc, who has 104 points, is Ferrari’s top driver, while Hamilton is sixth with 79.
The coming races, including the Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring on June 29, will give Ferrari a chance to respond to Leclerc’s call. The team is under pressure to find improvements and close the gap to their main competitors as the season continues.
Max Verstappen continues to apply pressure from Red Bull, maintaining his position as a title contender with consistent performances and a strong championship campaign.
