The NTT INDYCAR SERIES’ summer sprint to the title begins Sunday, July 5, with the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio, opening an eight-race, 10-week run that will define the championship.
Preparations intensified with a multi-team test at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on Tuesday, June 23, highlighting recent testing patterns that often separate headline speed from race-day execution.
Andretti Global, Dale Coyne, Ed Carpenter, Juncos Hollinger, Meyer Shank with Curb Agajanian, and Team Penske ran long stints and qual sims, echoing themes from a recent motorsports engineering symposium.

Kyle Kirkwood signalled renewed form, topping the day at 1:05.3542 in the No. 27 Sam’s Club Honda, despite Mid-Ohio previously yielding only eighth as his best in 2024 and 2025.
That pace arrives after a mixed campaign. His Arlington win briefly led the standings, but he has led only five laps since and now sits third, 61 behind Alex Palou.
Palou’s Mid-Ohio record remains the benchmark. The Ganassi driver has five straight podiums here, including a 2023 win, and still shapes the title picture with relentless consistency.
Rinus VeeKay sustained his rise with Juncos Hollinger, clocking 1:05.4130, only 0.0588 shy of Kirkwood. He is 13th, already bettering the team’s previous best of 16th scored in 2023.

His sustained speed strengthens talk of a move to a larger team for 2027, while Juncos benefits from the visibility and points haul of a breakout campaign.
Rookie leader Dennis Hauger underlined his Mid-Ohio comfort. Last year’s INDY NXT winner here posted 1:05.6703 for third in Dale Coyne’s No. 19 Ault Block Chain Honda.
He leads Caio Collet by 30 points and Mick Schumacher by 41, and his test form suggests further consolidation when racing starts on July 5.
Team Penske kept a contained programme. Scott McLaughlin was seventh at 1:06.0378, David Malukas 10th at 1:06.1060, with substitute Felipe Nasr 11th at 1:06.1614.
Nasr deputised for Josef Newgarden, recovering from a foot injury sustained at Indianapolis. The tight Penske spread shows sound correlation, even if headline pace proved elusive.
The test refined setup windows, tyre conditioning, and fuel numbers for a busy July, underlining how track position and pit execution decide outcomes at this narrow, punishing venue.
With competitive baselines set and strategies aligned, expect combative stints and minimal margins when the field returns to the Mid-Ohio circuit in early July.
