Which One Do I Need?

Check with your track or sanctioning body. As a rule of thumb: if you race at a national level (NASCAR, NHRA, Sprint Car, USAC, ARCA), you need SFI-5. If you race regionally (dirt track, karting, autocross, drifting, SCCA Solo), most tracks accept SFI-1. When in doubt, go with SFI-5 for maximum protection.

Why Racers Choose FervoGear

01 Close-up of FervoGear 360-degree radial arm sleeve construction and arm restraint D-rings

360° Radial Arm Design

FervoGear’s ergonomic radial arm construction follows the natural rotation of your arm. Traditional flat-pattern sleeves bind at the shoulders during the overhead steering position. Our radial cut eliminates binding, reduces fatigue, and gives you full unrestricted movement in the cockpit — exactly where you need it most.

Unrestricted steering motion — zero shoulder binding
02 DuPont Nomex meta-aramid fabric close-up showing woven fire-resistant fibers

100% DuPont Nomex Construction

Every FervoGear suit is made from genuine DuPont Nomex meta-aramid fiber. Nomex doesn’t melt, drip, or support combustion at any temperature. Its flame-resistant properties are inherent to the fiber itself — they never wash out, fade, or diminish. The same material trusted by NASA astronauts, military flight crews, and Formula 1 teams worldwide.

Inherent flame resistance — never washes out

SFI Foundation Certified

Every suit is tested and certified by the SFI Foundation — the governing body for motorsport safety standards. SFI 3.2A/5 double-layer suits provide a TPP of 19+ cal/cm², meeting NASCAR, NHRA, and USAC requirements. SFI 3.2A/1 single-layer suits provide a TPP of 6+ cal/cm² for karting, autocross, and dirt track. Each suit ships with an official SFI certification label sewn inside.

1-Piece & 2-Piece Options

Choose the configuration that fits your racing style. 1-piece suits are the traditional single-garment design preferred by most professional drivers. 2-piece suits with separate jacket and pants are easier to get in and out of — popular with pit crews and team drivers who need to partially remove the suit between sessions. Both configurations offer identical SFI-certified protection.

Same protection level in both configurations
LIVE FIRE TEST

Tested Under Fire

We put our Nomex racing suits through a direct-flame burn test to prove their fire resistance. The DuPont Nomex fabric chars and thickens under flame exposure, creating a protective insulating barrier between the fire and the driver. It does not melt, drip, or support combustion.

  • Nomex chars instead of melting — forms insulating barrier
  • SFI-5 provides extended protection in flash fire
  • Does not melt, drip, or support combustion at any temperature
  • Flame resistance is inherent — never washes out
  • Every FervoGear suit passes the same burn test

What is Nomex? The Science Behind Fire Protection

Nomex is a meta-aramid fiber developed by DuPont in the 1960s. Originally created for aerospace and military applications, Nomex has become the gold standard for flame-resistant fabric in professional motorsport. Every FervoGear racing suit is constructed from 100% DuPont Nomex — the same material trusted by NASA astronauts, military flight crews, and Formula 1 drivers worldwide.

How Does Nomex Protect You?

When exposed to extreme heat or direct flame, Nomex undergoes a unique chemical transformation. Instead of melting or burning like synthetic fabrics, the meta-aramid fibers char and thicken, forming a dense, insulating barrier between the flame and your skin. This carbonization process absorbs energy from the heat source and dramatically slows thermal transfer to the body, buying critical time for driver extraction.

Unlike chemically treated fabrics where flame resistance is applied as a surface coating, Nomex’s fire-resistant properties are inherent to the molecular structure of the fiber itself. This means the protection never washes out, fades, or diminishes over the life of the suit. After 100 washes, a Nomex suit offers the same level of protection as the day it was manufactured.

Why Nomex Over Other Materials?

Treated cotton and polyester blends lose their flame resistance after repeated washing and wear. Carbon fiber composites are rigid and restrict movement. Nomex delivers the rare combination of inherent flame resistance, lightweight comfort, and full range of motion that racing demands. It resists temperatures exceeding 370°C (700°F) without breaking down, and it does not melt, drip, or support combustion at any temperature.

TPP Ratings Explained

Thermal Protective Performance (TPP) measures how effectively a fabric system protects against second-degree burns in a flash fire scenario. The TPP value represents the energy in calories per square centimeter (cal/cm²) required to cause a second-degree burn through the fabric. Higher TPP values mean more protection time. FervoGear SFI-1 suits achieve a TPP of 6+ cal/cm² (entry-level protection), while our SFI-5 double-layer suits achieve 19+ cal/cm² (extended protection).

Which Suit For Your Racing Discipline

Different sanctioning bodies have different fire suit requirements. Here is a breakdown of which SFI rating you need for your type of racing.

SFI 3.2A/5 Required

National & Professional Racing

Most national-level sanctioning bodies require the higher SFI-5 protection level. These series involve higher speeds, more fuel, and greater fire risk. An SFI-5 double-layer Nomex suit is mandatory for competition.

  • NASCAR (all series — Cup, Xfinity, Trucks, ARCA)
  • NHRA (all professional and sportsman classes)
  • Sprint Car (World of Outlaws, USAC National)
  • USAC (Silver Crown, Midgets, Sprint Cars)
  • ARCA Menards Series
  • Late Model Stock Car (most national touring series)
  • Super Late Models (regional and national)
  • Drag racing over 200 MPH or 7.49 seconds ET
SFI 3.2A/1 Accepted

Regional & Entry-Level Racing

Many regional tracks and lower-speed disciplines accept the lighter SFI-1 single-layer Nomex suits. The reduced weight and improved breathability make SFI-1 an excellent choice for endurance events and hot-weather racing. Always verify with your specific track.

  • Dirt track racing (most local and regional tracks)
  • Karting (all levels)
  • Autocross / SCCA Solo
  • Drifting (Formula Drift, local events)
  • Time attack and hill climb
  • Road course track days (HPDE with competition license)
  • Drag racing under 200 MPH and slower than 7.49 ET
  • Demolition derby and endurance races

Yes. Our SFI-5 double-layer suits carry the SFI 3.2A/5 certification, which meets or exceeds the requirements for NASCAR, NHRA, USAC, ARCA, Sprint Car, and all other major national sanctioning bodies. The SFI 3.2A/5 rating is the standard requirement for professional and semi-professional racing in the United States.
Machine wash your Nomex suit in cold water on a gentle cycle. Use a mild detergent — never use bleach or fabric softener, as these can damage the Nomex fibers. Hang dry only; do not put Nomex in a dryer. Do not iron. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Proper care maintains the protective properties and extends the life of your suit.
FervoGear suits are covered by the SFI Foundation’s certification period, which is valid for 5 years from the date of manufacture. The manufacture date is printed on the SFI label inside the suit. We also guarantee our suits against manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship.
The 360° Radial Arm Design is FervoGear’s ergonomic sleeve construction that allows unrestricted arm movement and steering motion. Traditional flat-pattern sleeves bind at the shoulders during the overhead steering position. Our radial cut follows the natural rotation of the arm, reducing fatigue and improving comfort during long races.
