Alex Palou took a commanding Sonsio Grand Prix pole at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course, clocking 1:09.7487 to defeat Pato O’Ward by 0.5475s for his third straight event pole.
Already championship leader, Palou took his 14th career pole and second of 2026, targeting a fourth straight IMS road-course win.
The 85-lap race starts 4:30 p.m. ET on FOX and INDYCAR Radio.

Palou topped all three qualifying segments and both Friday practice sessions, underscoring a package that remained balanced through the grip evolution and cooler conditions.
O’Ward rebounded from a difficult Friday, when he was 15th and 19th in practice, to record 1:10.2962 and secure the front row alongside Palou.
Felix Rosenqvist was third at 1:10.4548 for Meyer Shank Racing, with Christian Lundgaard fourth at 1:10.4751 for Arrow McLaren.
David Malukas qualified fifth for Team Penske in 1:10.5660. Louis Foster completed the Firestone Fast Six, sixth in 1:10.9404 for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing.
Kyle Kirkwood, Palou’s closest challenger, starts ninth for Andretti Global. He trails by 17 points and needs to convert strategy and clean air into gains to preserve title momentum.
Ganassi’s execution remains decisive. Palou’s Honda balanced short-run bite with stability, enabling peak grip on new reds and consistency on used tyres through the Firestone Fast Six’s compressed runs.
Arrow McLaren’s recovery was equally notable. O’Ward’s car found front-end response and traction after setup changes, suggesting competitive long-run pace if track temperatures rise.
The 14-turn, 2.439-mile layout rewards braking stability and traction off Turns 7 and 12. Traffic management and undercut windows typically decide track position given modest degradation.
With pole secured and form sustained into May, Palou controls the narrative heading toward the Indianapolis 500. Rivals must disrupt his rhythm on strategy or concede further championship ground.
