Master Test Patterns at Road America for Ultimate Racing Performance
Highlights
- Thirteen drivers tested at Road America on June 9 ahead of race.
- Santino Ferrucci posted fastest lap in No. 14 AJ Foyt Chevrolet.
- Nolan Siegel second fastest amid uncertain Arrow McLaren future.
- Arrow McLaren’s Christian Lundgaard showed strong pace, finishing third.
- Chevrolet cars dominated testing; Honda holds four street-course wins.
- Next tests scheduled at Mid-Ohio on June 23 and Milwaukee on July 8.
After five consecutive race weekends, the NTT INDYCAR SERIES paused, but five teams exploited a June 9 Road America test to prepare for the XPEL Grand Prix on June 19-21.
AJ Foyt Racing, Andretti Global, Arrow McLaren, ECR, and Rahal Letterman Lanigan ran 13 drivers on the 14-turn, 4.014-mile circuit, chasing setup range, tire understanding, and operational sharpness.
Santino Ferrucci set the pace at 1:45.0611 in AJ Foyt’s No. 14 Chevrolet, with Nolan Siegel next on 1:45.2064 for Arrow McLaren amid uncertainty over his future.
Christian Lundgaard was third on 1:45.2310 in Arrow McLaren’s No. 7 Chevrolet, reinforcing the team’s road-course baseline after his Indianapolis road-course win earlier this season.
That form aligns with recent developments around McLaren’s wider operations, including Formula E headlines.
ECR’s Christian Rasmussen clocked 1:45.3079 for fourth, building on his growing versatility after last August’s Milwaukee victory and his 2022 INDY NXT success at Road America.
Chevrolet populated six of the top eight.
Honda, however, owns this season’s street-course sweep, while road-course victories are split. Alex Palou leads Honda with wins at St. Petersburg, Long Beach, Detroit, and Barber.
Chip Ganassi Racing, including Palou, skipped this test, so the manufacturer picture may shift once its data enters the mix.
Rahal Letterman Lanigan and Andretti Global struggled for outright pace. Graham Rahal was 10th, Louis Foster 12th, and Mick Schumacher 13th, hinting at continuing setup sensitivity.
Will Power, now with Andretti Global, placed ninth and remained over six-tenths slower than Ferrucci. The two-time champion sits 17th in points at midseason.
Preparation continues with a June 23 test at Mid-Ohio for six teams and 14 drivers, followed by a July 8 Milwaukee Mile oval test featuring nine teams and 23 drivers.
Racing resumes at the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio on July 5, then a Milwaukee doubleheader on August 29-30, compressing preparation windows and elevating test-day value.
The series’ technical race to optimize setups and processes is relentless, underlined by the recent Motorsports Engineering Symposium spotlighting innovation ahead of the Road America weekend.
