Immokalee Regional Raceway faces displacement as airport hangar construction targets a late-May 2026 start, capping a packed Winter Series and compressing this year’s schedule.

Founder Ralph Hester is pursuing a relocation within Immokalee, backed by long-standing sponsors and robust community support built over nearly three decades.

Airport hangar project could force closure of the current site by May 2026.

The dragstrip opened in 1999 on airport-owned land under a 10-year lease. Now in its 27th season, the venue remains vulnerable to a project delayed twice but still advancing.

Hester’s plan is continuity through portability. “Everything here that you see can be moved, including the tower,” he said. “I just need some land so I can move the track and reopen it.”

Attendance trends reinforce the case. One Winter Series night served 250 steaks, followed by 250 barbecue plates the next night, underlining sustained demand.

The track’s hospitality model also delivers local gains. Nearby restaurants report sales doubling on major weekends, strengthening the venue’s ties to the town.

The 2026 campaign is already live yet projected to be the shortest on record. “New Years On The Strip” filled the pits in early January, setting a brisk tone.

A bracket points series of around a dozen races runs January through May. Typically stretching to October, the calendar tightens amid the construction timeline.

Programming remains diverse. Traditional bracket racing anchors the schedule, while no-prep meetings and a growing truck series expand the audience base.

Truck fields are modest, but the pull is significant. At a recent meet, all 28 on-site food vendors sold out, and overflow parking pushed cars onto the roadside.

Between headline weekends, “Runday Sunday” presented by Shameless Racing provides regular access, complemented by select Friday test-and-tune sessions.

Hester has scheduled events through April while seeking definitive word on the hangar build. Two prior delays sustain hope of another reprieve.

His stance is clear: stay local and preserve momentum. “Immokalee has been real good to me, and I don’t want to leave this area to build another track,” he said.

Relocation hinges on securing land, yet the data is encouraging. Strong attendance, sponsor loyalty, and community impact indicate a viable future if a new site emerges.
