The 2026 NHRA Brainerd Nationals run August 20-23 at Brainerd International Raceway, the penultimate regular-season round as teams position for the Countdown to the Championship.

It is the 13th stop of 20 in the Mission Foods Drag Racing Series, featuring Top Fuel, Funny Car, and Pro Stock, and framed by NHRA’s 75th anniversary celebrations.

Brainerd’s 40-year-plus tenure and the raucous Zoo campground shape a distinctive event. Cooler evenings and sticky track conditions often drive performance spikes and strategic lane calls.

Ron Capps, a three-time Funny Car champion, receives a dedicated Zoo section, Capps’ Corner. He owns seven Brainerd wins, the most among active drivers, underlining sustained track affinity.

Brainerd is the penultimate 2026 round before the Countdown begins.

The 2025 event delivered benchmark form lines. Doug Kalitta won Top Fuel, Austin Prock prevailed in Funny Car, and Greg Anderson captured Pro Stock to extend his track record.

Top Fuel dynamics sharpen. Kalitta holds three 2026 victories after four last year and his second title, while Shawn Langdon leads the standings with four wins and consistent early-round pace.

Leah Pruett, rookie Maddi Gordon after her Norwalk win, Antron Brown, and Tony Stewart remain credible threats as tuning windows narrow before playoff reseeding.

Funny Car carries multiple plotlines. Defending champion Austin Prock targets a repeat after last year’s first Brainerd win, while J.R. Todd arrives buoyed by his recent Seattle success.

Capps leads the standings with three 2026 victories. Past champion Jack Beckman, newcomer Jordan Vandergriff, and four-time champion Matt Hagan apply sustained pressure.

Six-time champion Greg Anderson leads with wins in Pomona, Maryland, and Seattle. His 2025 Brainerd victory was his fourth here. Dallas Glenn, with three 2026 wins, remains close.

Ron Capps is honored at the Zoo with “Capps’ Corner,” recognizing seven Brainerd wins.

The Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series double-divisional runs August 13-16 at Brainerd, laying rubber and sharpening data, which should compress qualifying gaps for the Nationals.

Pre-race ceremonies, the SealMaster Track Walk, and a post-race winner’s circle anchor fan access, reinforcing the event’s festival character alongside Manufacturers Midway displays.

Qualifying runs Friday and Saturday. Final eliminations start Sunday morning. FS1 broadcasts the event, expanding reach as the series marks its 75th anniversary.

Shawn Langdon leads Top Fuel with four wins; Doug Kalitta has three.

Form entering Brainerd reflects the evolving Western Swing picture and recent semifinal runs from Beckman, raising competitive tension before the playoff cutoff.
