Maximilian Guenther will join Envision Racing next season after concluding talks earlier this month, ending a two-year spell with DS Penske amid uncertainty over the team’s Gen4 direction.
The seven-time E-Prix winner seeks a more stable platform, with Envision set to continue as a Jaguar customer, offering proven hardware and operational continuity for the upcoming regulations.
Guenther’s current campaign has been inconsistent, hampered by powertrain inefficiency and strategic miscues that limited race-day execution despite flashes of qualifying speed.

Penske’s future remains opaque following DS’s exit, with no confirmation of a manufacturer or car for the Gen4 era. That lack of clarity accelerated Guenther’s decision.
The team has explored customer options in recent months. Deputy team principal Phil Charles has indicated preparations are underway and the outfit will be present on the grid.
Envision’s roster remains fluid. FIA WEC clashes continue to cloud Sebastien Buemi’s availability, though a Monaco E-Prix move to early May could make a dual programme more manageable.
Joel Eriksson strengthened his claim with a breakthrough podium at the Shanghai E-Prix, capping an impressive return after three-and-a-half years away from the series.

Whether Guenther’s arrival displaces Eriksson or Buemi remains undecided. Both Envision and DS Penske declined to comment on driver moves when approached.
Jaguar supply continuity should give Envision a predictable baseline and data alignment with the factory operation, which remains central to the title picture led by Mitch Evans’ campaign showdown.
As the Formula E calendar turns toward next season, the market focus shifts to finalised line-ups and manufacturer commitments, with Penske’s direction the most consequential unresolved piece.
