Envision Racing Unveils Dynamic Driver Line-Up for Formula E Gen4 Debut

Envision Racing will overhaul its driver line-up for the Gen4 era, confirming both Sébastien Buemi and Joel Eriksson will leave their race seats after London on August 15-16.

The team plans to announce its Season 14 pairing shortly after the London finale, signalling a strategic reset as the Gen3 chapter closes.

Buemi and Eriksson will exit Envision Racing at the end of the current season.

Buemi joined Envision for Season 9 and helped deliver a teams’ title and a Monaco E-Prix victory. He previously won the Formula E championship in 2015-16, underlining his long-standing impact.

While stepping back from racing, Buemi will remain as an advisor, supporting Gen4 development. His feedback on energy management, systems integration, and race operations offers continuity through the transition.

Buemi moves into an advisory role to aid Envision’s Gen4 development programme.

Eriksson’s Season 13 featured a podium in Shanghai and fourth in Miami, reinforcing his adaptability. His links with the team date to the 2018 Marrakesh Rookie Test, completing a full-circle stint.

Managing director and CTO Sylvain Filippi acknowledged the difficulty of the decision, while stressing the value of experience during a demanding Formula E calendar.

CEO and chairman Franz Jung praised Buemi’s four-season commitment and highlighted Eriksson’s contributions, wishing both success as Envision recalibrates for 2026’s technical step.

Resetting the roster is a clear bid to optimise qualifying execution and race efficiency, key battlegrounds as Gen4 hardware and software open new competitive avenues.

The Gen4 campaign starts in December with a Jeddah double-header, concentrating early momentum. Broader changes across categories are also taking shape in the Formula E support series.
