Residents will see how drivers are removed from reinforced race cars on Thursday, September 3, 6:00 p.m., at Toronto Motorsports Park, Cayuga.

The public demonstration anchors the Labour Day Weekend Spectacular and precedes the John Scotti Canadian Championship Series within the NHRA National Open double-header from September 4–6.

Crews will manage a staged serious accident, allowing spectators to observe coordinated incident command, fire suppression, medical triage, and extrication workflows from a secure viewing zone.

The exercise addresses how race-car design alters rescue strategy: roll cages, multi-point harnesses, window nets, head-and-neck restraints, electrical isolation, specialized fuel systems, onboard suppression, and ultra-rigid chassis.

These protections reduce injury risk yet complicate access. Training familiarizes crews with cut points, tool selection, patient packaging, and communication under time pressure.

Organization is led by NHRA’s Glenn Grow, Bruce F. Mehlenbacher, and Toronto Motorsports Park Track Manager Neale Armstrong.

A competition chassis will be used, enabling firefighters to practice real-world access, stabilization, and driver removal techniques on authentic hardware.

Technical support comes from Extrication Specialist Dave Connors of M&L Supply Fire & Safety, representing AMKUS Rescue Systems, the NHRA’s official rescue tool partner working alongside the Safety Safari.

AMKUS is the official rescue tool provider for NHRA and supports the Safety Safari.

Haldimand County Fire Services Station 12 Fisherville and Station 4 Cayuga have confirmed participation, with additional emergency units expected.

Logistics partners Plazek Auto Recyclers and Ray’s Towing will supply vehicles and transport, increasing realism and training value.

Community links are central. Armstrong highlights pride in local volunteer departments and their commitment to public safety.

Haldimand–Norfolk MPP Bobbi Ann Brady and Mayor Shelley Ann Bentley will attend. Brady underlines response speed, noting that thirty seconds at the track can feel like minutes.

Mehlenbacher’s three-generation family involvement, including his firefighter daughter and grandson, reinforces the event’s community emphasis.

The drill prioritizes cross-agency coordination, tool proficiency, medical oversight, and clear role definition to shorten timelines when seconds count.

Final details on viewing areas and timing will follow. Fans can explore recent coverage, including the Verstappen Dutch Motorsport update and our Circuit Zandvoort guide.
