Per regulations, fuel load and tire state are frozen at the suspension. Teams can work within legal limits, but they must restart with the same fuel and rubber carried at the red flag.
Strategy already diverged under a Lap 63 light-rain caution. Points leader Alex Palou, David Malukas, Scott Dixon, and Christian Rasmussen pitted for fuel and fresh tires, sacrificing track position for potential control of the morning stint.
Graham Rahal also stopped near Lap 80 under caution. Twenty-fifth at the halt, Rahal welcomed the decision to complete the full distance rather than compress the finish into a short run.
Two cars returned in rebuilt form after Friday practice crashes reshaped plans. Rasmussen switched to a permitted backup, prioritizing a conservative baseline to secure mileage over outright speed.
He qualified 18th for Race 1 and 17th for Race 2. Andretti Global repaired Kyle Kirkwood’s primary, compromising qualifying but aiming for a stronger balance in Sunday’s conditions.
