Pirelli confirms the C3, C4, and C5 compounds for the 2026 Italian Grand Prix at Monza, round 14, selecting its softest range to match the circuit’s high-speed demands.

Each driver gets two hards, three mediums, and eight softs, plus an extra soft for Q3. Two slick compounds are mandatory in the dry; intermediates and wets cover rain.

Lower approach speeds into braking zones should ease front-axle loading. The rear tyres, however, face greater traction stress as engines deploy hard exiting chicanes and Lesmo.

The First Chicane and Ascari will expose any instability on entry and poor traction on exit. Monza’s traditional low-downforce packages raise sliding, complicating temperature control across longer stints.

Teams are expected to trim downforce aggressively, trading stability for top speed and DRS efficiency.

To meet those demands, McLaren’s upgrade package targets efficiency and traction. That mirrors paddock focus on drag levels, brake management, and tyre pressures to protect rears.

Grip should be strong from the outset thanks to 2024 resurfacing. Rebuilt kerbs and a replaced gravel trap, now asphalt run-off, improve consistency and reduce random damage risk.

Rear tyre temperatures are the primary limiter. Wear appears manageable, but straight-line cooling followed by heavy traction spikes rears, demanding careful deployment and measured exits from slower corners.

Strategy modelling points to a one-stop. The soft offers qualifying grip; the medium or hard should anchor race pace, dependent on stint lengths and traffic.

One-stop strategies look optimal, with rear overheating rather than abrasion likely to dictate stint lengths.

Monza’s layout promotes overtaking, reducing track position risk versus tighter venues. That widens strategic windows and rewards cars with efficient drag-to-downforce ratios.
