Ed Carpenter Racing has agreed a multi-year extension with Chevrolet, reinforcing a 15-year alliance ahead of IndyCar’s 2028 chassis and engine overhaul.

The deal maintains one of the series’ most enduring partnerships. ECR is one of only two teams to run Chevrolet continuously since the brand’s 2012 return with the 2.2-liter twin-turbo V6.

Continuity is a competitive asset. The agreement keeps ECR closely aligned with Chevrolet as the team approaches its 500th race start during the 2027 season.

The timing is significant. IndyCar will introduce an all-new chassis and engine package in 2028, and ECR has already begun supporting the development cycle.

Alexander Rossi, driving the No. 20 Java House Chevrolet, was among two drivers to complete the first on-track runs with the new chassis. ECR will also assist Chevrolet’s next-generation powertrain testing.

Alexander Rossi took part in the first on-track tests for the new chassis.

Co-owner and CEO Ed Carpenter underlined Chevrolet’s role in ECR’s growth since inception. He framed the renewal as a foundation for sustained progress into the next IndyCar era.

On-track results back the relationship. The team and Chevrolet have nine wins together, starting with Carpenter’s victory in the 2012 season finale, followed by Christian Rasmussen’s maiden win in late 2025.

Rossi added further momentum in 2026 with a podium that marked ECR’s 28th top-three finish with Chevrolet power.

Qualifying form has been a hallmark. ECR and Chevrolet have six poles together, including three at the Indianapolis 500 by Carpenter. Rossi’s 2026 front-row start was the team’s 11th at the Speedway in 14 years.

ECR and Chevrolet share nine wins and six poles since 2012, including three Indy 500 poles by Ed Carpenter.

Team president Tim Broyles praised the technical exchange with Chevrolet and highlighted its importance for the 2028 transition. That theme echoes wider paddock planning, including Shank’s 2027 IndyCar goals.

From Chevrolet, Eric Warren, GM’s Vice President of Global Motorsports Competition, emphasized the depth of the ECR collaboration and the drive to refine the package for wins, titles, and Indy 500 success.

The extension secures a stable development path through regulation change. ECR looks well placed to remain a Chevrolet standard-bearer as manufacturers recalibrate for new eras, much like the planned Ford WRC return in 2028.
