  • USA returns with gravel rally near Knoxville, Tennessee
  • UK rally returns in Scotland with a three-year deal
  • Rally di Roma Capitale replaces Sardinia on July 8-11
  • Safari Rally Kenya secured for March 18-21 with government aid

The World Rally Championship will expand to 15 rounds in 2027, the largest calendar since 2008, as the FIA confirms returns for the USA and UK alongside reshaped events.

WRC expands to 15 rounds in 2027, the most since 2008.

The calendar reflects the Rally1 era’s global push. The USA rejoins for the first time since 1988 with a Knoxville-based gravel rally on August 26-29 across Tennessee and Kentucky.

USA returns with a new Knoxville gravel rally on August 26-29.

Britain’s return arrives via a gravel rally in Scotland on September 30-October 3, secured on a three-year agreement that restores a UK presence last seen in 2019.

Italy shifts from Sardinia’s gravel to Rome’s asphalt. The Rally di Roma Capitale steps up from ERC status for July 8-11 to better suit the summer window.

Uncertainty around Safari Rally Kenya funding is resolved. The classic event is locked in for March 18-21 through a partnership between the FIA, local promoters, and government.

Safari Rally Kenya is secured for March 18-21 with government support.

Portugal, initially pencilled in, is dropped for 2027. Organisers have left the door open for a 2028 return, as noted in recent updates.

Season flow is deliberate. After Monte Carlo on January 21-24, Sweden’s snow leads into Kenya. As confirmed, the season will kick off in Monte Carlo before the early gravel test in Africa.

Three asphalt fixtures then compress the tarmac portion: Croatia, the Canary Islands, and Japan. Greece returns the field to gravel in late June, ahead of a demanding summer.

Seven consecutive gravel rallies finish the year. Estonia on July 22-25 precedes Finland on July 29-August 1, then the USA, Scotland, Paraguay, Chile, and a Saudi Arabia finale on November 25-28.

That stretch emphasises speed and durability, magnifying setup trade-offs and parts management. The expanded map also raises logistics complexity, especially for back-to-back transcontinental moves.

For teams and manufacturers, the mix of surfaces and markets should broaden reach and data. It also promises a tighter title fight as competitive strengths shift round to round.

WRC promoter Éric Boullier frames 2027 as a reset, aligning calendar ambition with fresh technical rules. The FIA’s Mohammed Ben Sulayem cites rising interest and investment as validation.
