The Red Line Oil PDRA Drag Racing Series will stage its first Sportsman Spectacular at the Thunder Valley Throwdown, August 7-9, at Bristol Dragway, the fifth stop of seven in 2026.

The initiative elevates sportsman and Jr. Dragster competitors with enhanced payouts and profile. Series director Tyler Crossnoe labels sportsman racers the backbone of the championship.

Bristol’s freshly poured concrete surface is expected to boost consistency and performance. The Throwdown returns for its third year at the venue, promising a stronger competitive baseline.

Headline prizes reach $7,500-to-win in MagnaFuel Elite Top Sportsman and Greenbrier Excavating & Paving Elite Top Dragster, presented by Butcher Demolition and NexGen Race Cars.

MagnaFuel Top Sportsman and ATI Performance Products Top Dragster target $5,000-to-win. Fulton Competition Race Engines and C&C Chemical Co., Inc. support those categories.

First-ever PDRA Sportsman Spectacular runs August 7–9 at Bristol Dragway.

Junior racers also benefit. PDRA Pro Jr. Dragster and Classic Graphix Top Jr. Dragster, presented by Mike Bos Race Cars, both pay $2,000-to-win.

The financial uplift follows a momentum-building spring, including standout performances during the series’ early stretch after the triple‑threat wins weekend in May.

$7,500-to-win purses headline Elite Top Sportsman and Elite Top Dragster.

Calendar pressure has intensified since the Mid‑Atlantic event cancellation, giving Bristol added significance for points, preparation, and participation.

The Throwdown also fields PDRA’s full pro lineup: Pro Nitrous, Pro Boost, Pro Street, Pro 632, and Super Street, with their respective presenting partners returning in support.

Expect deeper fields and tighter ladders as higher purses influence entry numbers and strategy across sportsman categories through qualifying and eliminations.

Both PDRA Jr. Dragster classes pay $2,000-to-win, presented by Mike Bos Race Cars.

Bristol’s new concrete should narrow setup windows, prioritize data-driven tuning, and reduce lane-to-lane variability across long race days.

Facility investment aligns with broader regional upgrades, echoed by projects like the Mooresville Dragway transformation, reinforcing performance and safety standards.

Crossnoe credits yearlong partners and event-specific backers for enabling the Sportsman Spectacular, positioning the weekend as a showcase for PDRA’s grassroots strength and pro-class firepower.
