McLaren team principal Andrea Stella says Oscar Piastri’s dip in 2026 form is technical, not mental, with the Australian wrestling a car-window mismatch exposed by the latest regulations.
Reduced downforce and altered ground-effect stall characteristics leave the rear less planted, increasing sliding. The package rewards constant micro-corrections, which conflicts with Piastri’s traditionally smooth, flow-based style.
At Zandvoort he finishes sixth, mirroring his continued Dutch GP struggles and extending a winless run in grands prix since the 2025 Dutch event.
