The Formula 1 Commission met on Monday at the FIA’s London headquarters for its third 2026 sitting. It approved minor 2026 tweaks and agreed headline 2027 changes, pending formal ratification.
FIA Single-Seater Director Nikolas Tombazis and FOM President Stefano Domenicali chaired the meeting. The focus centered on competitive balance, operational certainty, and aligning rules with future power unit targets.
For 2026, small Sporting and Financial Regulation updates were approved. The intent is refinement rather than upheaval, preserving stability while addressing procedural gaps.
More substantial revisions land in 2027, led by changes to the Power Unit regulations. The framework targets efficiency and predictable race deployment.
Fuel flow rules underpin a reduced race distance, down from 305 kilometers to 290 kilometers. That typically trims two or three laps, depending on the circuit length.
