Two-time champion Marco Wittmann faces missing 2027 DTM rounds as the Hockenheim finale and Zandvoort weekend collide with IMSA’s Petit Le Mans and Road America Endurance Cup races.
The 36-year-old BMW driver fights for titles to the final race and has 228 consecutive DTM starts. His absence would weaken the grid’s depth and marketing pull, including partner Schaeffler ties.
Both IMSA events carry Endurance Cup points, increasing their strategic weight. The DTM finale at Hockenheim overlaps with Petit Le Mans, while Zandvoort clashes with Road America, forcing BMW to weigh championship priorities.

Wittmann races full-time in IMSA with Philipp Eng, making BMW’s Hypercar program the default priority. BMW Motorsport director Andreas Roos confirms talks with ADAC and IMSA to ease the pinch points.
Wittmann argues the DTM has hurt itself with date choices, warning that losing headline drivers reduces the series’ appeal. He urges the promoter ADAC to explore adjustments for 2027.
ADAC motorsport chief Thomas Voss accepts the complexity. Moving the DTM finale or Zandvoort is constrained by daylight, support paddocks, and overlaps with F1 and GT fixtures, limiting flexibility.
Manufacturers face tough early-season calls without title clarity. Conflicts complicate driver allocation, team planning, and fan engagement, especially around marquee IMSA and WEC dates.

The issue extends beyond BMW. Mercedes-AMG driver Jules Gounon, a 2026 WEC racer with Alpine, also faces overlaps: Spielberg versus Silverstone and Fuji versus Sachsenring threaten a full DTM program.
For now, BMW and ADAC keep talking. Without movement, 2027 could start with the DTM short of several headline names, weakening the competitive order and the series’ resonance with fans.
