Chris King heads to the Texas Fall Nationals at Texas Motorplex on October 15–18, targeting a reset after setbacks and a push into the top 16.

The Chicago firefighter-driver leads the Howards Cams/Competition Products entry, with crew chief Bob Peck and rival-team assistance underpinning renewed confidence in a tightly matched Nitro Funny Car field this season.

Target: break into top 16 at Texas Fall Nationals, October 15–18.

Indianapolis and St. Louis exposed weaknesses, from mechanical gremlins to performance inconsistency, culminating in nose-lift moments that made the 12,000-horsepower car difficult to keep settled.

Between events, Jonnie Lindberg advised setup revisions and fabrication tweaks to keep the nose planted, addressing pitch sensitivity and improving the platform’s stability on launch and early throttle.

Those changes produced a stronger St. Louis weekend, though King missed the cut in seventeenth. The aim now is four clean qualifiers and a first move into the three-second bracket.

Lindberg’s input helped cure nose-lift tendencies, giving King a calmer, more predictable car under power.

King frames Dallas as an opportunity to convert pace into points, with improved consistency and a clearer baseline to attack marginal conditions across the scheduled sessions.

Away from the lanes, King continues his outreach, inviting veterans and first responders to sign the bodywork. He also appears at the Pre-Stage Fanfest in Waxahachie on October 15.

The schedule has two Friday qualifiers and $15,000 for the quickest Funny Car, then two runs Saturday.

Eliminations start Sunday at noon on FS1, within the Stampede Speed Showdown weekend.

Friday’s quickest Funny Car earns $15,000; eliminations air nationally Sunday on FS1.
