Philipp Eng and BMW will end their partnership after the 2026 season, concluding an 11‑year association and allowing the 36‑year‑old Austrian to pursue new options for 2027.
Eng’s BMW tenure spans GT and prototypes, highlighted by Spa 24 Hours victories in 2016, 2018, and 2023, plus a GTLM class win at the 2019 Daytona 24 Hours.
Between 2018 and 2022, he made 72 starts in the DTM series, recording one win and five podiums. That period underlined his versatility across sprint and endurance formats.
From 2023, Eng fronted BMW’s LMDh effort in IMSA’s GTP class with the M Hybrid V8, taking two wins and five podiums. He and Dries Vanthoor finished fourth in 2025.

Eng’s prototype stint coincides with BMW’s consolidation as a GTP contender, aided by reliability gains amid a congested calendar and title-weekend clashes demanding careful resource planning.
BMW M Motorsport boss Andreas Roos praises Eng’s contributions, citing him as a leading GT driver and a cornerstone of the IMSA prototype project across development and race execution.
Eng’s BMW connection predates his factory deal.
He raced in Formula BMW from 2006 to 2008, won the 2007 World Final, and tested for BMW Sauber’s Formula 1 team in 2008.
BMW is expected to cover the vacancy internally, with Dan Harper and Max Hesse prominent candidates given their GT performances and growing mileage in high‑downforce machinery.
Speculation links Eng to an American manufacturer for 2027, with Team Penske potentially returning to Le Mans under Cadillac, whose IMSA titles reinforce the program’s competitiveness.
A move would keep Eng within the LMDh ruleset, aligning IMSA commitments with potential WEC outings and preserving continuity in hybrid prototype experience.
Confirmation is expected after the current season, with both parties stressing respect and openness to future collaboration should paths align later.
