Team Cadillac’s Winning Strategy Secures Two IMSA Titles for GM

Highlights

  • GM swept GTP and GTD Pro classes at Petit Le Mans.
  • Cadillac won GTP Manufacturer, Team, and Driver championships.
  • Chevrolet claimed GTD Pro Manufacturer title at Michelin Raceway.
  • Jack Aitken won first IMSA series championship with Cadillac.
  • Action Express Racing tied for most IMSA Team championships.
  • GM praised for teamwork and global success of Corvette Z06 GT3.R.

General Motors completes a clean sweep at Petit Le Mans at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, locking down the IMSA GTP and GTD Pro class championships on a decisive weekend.

Cadillac secures the GTP Manufacturer, Team, and Driver titles, while Chevrolet captures the GTD Pro Manufacturer crown, underlining GM’s depth and operational alignment across multiple factory and customer programs.

Despite not winning the race, Cadillac’s points haul confirms an 11th IMSA Manufacturer title, and a fifth since 2017, delivered by Wayne Taylor Racing’s #10 and #40 and Action Express’s #31 entries.

GM president Mark Reuss frames the outcome as the product of coordinated execution by drivers, engineers, and crews, reflecting a winning culture embedding across Cadillac Racing and Corvette Racing.

GM motorsport chief Eric Warren credits a deliberate “Team Cadillac” model. Season-long consistency, including a sustained podium run stretching back to Indianapolis, proves decisive against deep and varied GTP opposition.

“Team Cadillac” consistency, rather than outright dominance, underpins the GTP title across changing tracks and conditions.

The competitive context tightens across the calendar, but Cadillac’s reliability, pit work, and strategy repeatedly keep the title bid on the front foot when outright pace fluctuates.

Jack Aitken’s championship with the #31 Whelen Cadillac, shared with Earl Bamber and Frederik Vesti at Petit Le Mans, rests on eight consecutive GTP podiums and nine from his last 11 starts.

Aitken’s eight-race GTP podium streak turns consistency into championship leverage under IMSA’s cumulative points emphasis.

Action Express adds a seventh IMSA Team title, tying Chip Ganassi Racing and Team Penske. That record underscores long-term operational strength in multi-class, endurance-centered championship frameworks.

Action Express’s Chris Mitchum highlights execution and the value of long-standing GM partnership roots in Grand-Am and Daytona Prototype eras, which continue to inform processes and standards today.

He also points to pit-crew strength and recovery drives after setbacks. Collaboration with Wayne Taylor Racing functions as a single, aligned program rather than two siloed operations.

“One-team” coordination between Action Express and Wayne Taylor Racing maximizes development speed and trackside adaptability.

Chevrolet’s GTD Pro Manufacturer title is its 16th since 1999. Late incidents hampered the two works-supported Corvette Racing by Pratt Miller Z06 GT3.Rs, but DragonSpeed’s results proved decisive.

GM stresses the Corvette program’s breadth, with the Corvette Z06 GT3.R competing effectively in IMSA and the World Endurance Championship, validating platform versatility and customer-team support.

Strategically, the result complements Cadillac’s broader motorsport expansion, including its evolving US–UK structure and recent F1 team signings, aligning factory efforts under a single performance umbrella.

GM exits Road Atlanta with momentum. Robust driver lineups, proven operational links, and customer engagement position Cadillac and Chevrolet to contend again as IMSA evolves into 2027.
