German Formula 4 returns in 2027 after a four-year absence, launching a six-event season. Gedlich Racing promotes the series, with 14 teams confirmed for a tightly controlled inaugural grid.

Five race weekends run alongside the DTM, aligning junior exposure with Germany’s flagship series. That dovetails with recent DTM promotion initiatives to strengthen domestic motorsport pathways.

Interest is strong. Organisers received over 70 applications but limited approvals to 14 entrants, ensuring manageable paddock logistics and competitive standards from the outset.

The standout addition is Comtoyou Racing. Fresh from Aston Martin-powered DTM wins, the Belgian outfit plans two cars, marking its first foray into single-seaters and signalling the championship’s pull.

Comtoyou Racing expands from DTM to single-seaters with a two-car Formula 4 programme.

Budgets look significant for F4. Teams estimate around 100,000 euros per car, with full-season operations potentially climbing to 500,000 euros depending on scope, staffing, and testing.

Profiled entries include LN4 Fusion, co-founded by Lando Norris, referencing his number four. Norris previously won in German F4 with Mücke in 2015. FS Motorsports links to Augusto Farfus and Mauricio Slaviero.

Vanwall F4 Racing, fronted by Colin Kolles and Trevor Carlin, will operate from the ByKolles base. It targets the four-car maximum, mirrored by Van Amersfoort Racing and Mathilda Racing.

Van Amersfoort’s junior record includes Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc. The grid also features Jenzer, Step, Renauer, CRAM, AS, Dutt, drive.solutions, PK Carsport, and FS Motorsports.

Van Amersfoort Racing and Mathilda Racing intend to field the four-car maximum permitted.

The provisional calendar opens at Oschersleben on May 7-9, then Lausitzring in June. Norisring is pencilled for early July, subject to confirmation.

Later rounds include Red Bull Ring during an ADAC Racing Weekend, Nürburgring with DTM, Sachsenring in late September, and a Hockenheim finale at another ADAC meeting. The schedule complements the F2 2027 calendar.

Six events are planned, with five weekends alongside DTM to maximise visibility and track time.

Together with DTM support, the format offers young drivers meaningful mileage, larger audiences, and clear progression. The limited entry list should maintain standards and intensify competition for seats.

With strong interest, credible teams, and a sensible calendar, German Formula 4 is positioned as a key development step for aspiring racers returning to a renewed national ladder.
