Jak Crawford will drive the Aston Martin AMR26 in FP1 at the 2026 Mexico City Grand Prix, extending his Third Driver duties and supporting Aston Martin’s rookie running obligations.

The team confirms the outing during the United States weekend in Austin, and it will be Crawford’s fourth FP1 of 2026 after appearances in Japan, Austria, and Belgium.

Aged 21, Crawford joins Aston Martin’s Driver Development Programme in 2024 and remains integrated through testing and simulator work alongside his three-season stint in Formula 2.

That programme gives Aston Martin additional feedback on the AMR26’s chassis and the power unit, areas the team targets after early-season weaknesses.

Mexico City also offers specific learning. The high altitude reduces air density, affecting cooling and turbo efficiency, making representative data vital for correlation with the simulator.

Crawford sampled FP1 at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez last season, his previous Mexico City outing noted in a driver change update. Mike Krack values his mileage and increasingly precise feedback.

Aston Martin prioritises correlation work on chassis and power unit at high altitude.

The session objective is straightforward: complete a structured run-plan and deliver clean data for correlation. Tyre warm-up, braking stability, and cooling targets headline the checklist in the thin air.

Results in rookie FP1s are secondary. Crawford classified 20th at the Red Bull Ring, but mileage, procedure practice, and comparative runs against the baseline race driver matter far more.

Aston Martin also benefits strategically. The extra running supports setup direction while nurturing talent, mirroring opportunities seen with other rookies, including Freddie Slater’s recent F1 debut earlier this month.

The session’s value lies in clean mileage and actionable data, not the timesheet.

Crawford arrives well prepared from simulator and private testing. Executing clean laps and clear feedback will be his value-add as Aston Martin chases consistency with the AMR26.
