Jeff Ikard claims his first Small Tire Pro Stock victory at World Wide Technology Raceway in Madison, Illinois, during the Nostalgia Drag Racing League’s Rockabilly Reunion on May 22-23.
The season opener defies poor forecasts, drawing a robust field. The class runs naturally aspirated, heads-up, and quarter-mile, with typical performance in the mid-seven to low-eight-second bracket.
Ikard, from Toney, Alabama, tops qualifying at 8.09 seconds and 160 mph. His Mustang uses a fresh 415ci Huntsville Engine, dual Gary Williams carburetors, and a five-speed from G-Force Transmissions.
Defending champion Dwight Ausmus advances to face Ikard in the final. His Firebird features a 573-cubic-inch Pontiac from BES Racing Engines, a CFM Performance carburetor, and a Liberty’s Gears five-speed.
Ikard wins the final, 8.04s at 160 mph to Ausmus’s 8.11s at 141 mph.
The lights drop and both cars leave cleanly, but Ikard executes better through the middle. He stops the clocks at 8.04 and 160 mph as Ausmus records 8.11 at 141 mph.
